CURRICULUM

VCCS High School

VCCS offers college preparatory courses, including honors and advanced placement (depending on demand). Our high school curriculum is designed to meet the quality of education required to enter the University of California and California State College systems.

Bible truths are emphasized as an integral part of each subject, to reinforce concepts from the Bible classes that students are required to take each semester. The school's curriculum is written explicitly from a Christian perspective, since the school's board and administration strongly believe it is a vital element in raising up Christian students.

In addition to the core academic subjects, a variety of elective courses are offered to students to enrich and fulfill their graduation requirements. Elective subjects include: Art 1 & 2, Drama, Journalism, Set Design, Spanish 1 & 2, Video Film/Editing, Yearbook, Worship Team (Vocals and Instrument) and Associated Student Body for experience in student government.

For those interested in high school athletics VCCS is a member of the CIF-Southern Section and the Omega League, offering students the opportunity to participate in football, baseball, men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, and golf. In 2007 VCCS Stars were awarded the Omega League Champions in Baseball.

VCCHS Student Led Worship Team

VCCHS trains a student-led worship team to lead worship in the middle and high school chapels, as well as to go out to local middle schools and other venues as ambassadors, sharing their faith through the gift of worship.

Weekly chapels for the middle and high schools, led by local church pastors or other Christian speakers, engage the students in spiritual dialog and greatly contribute to building character, wisdom, and a greater sense and understanding of identity with Christ. Elementary school chapels are led by faculty in a manner that is engages and inspires the younger audience.

Middle School

VCCS Middle School students are offered a biblical curriculum to prepare them spiritually and academically for the challenges of high school. A student's schedule typically consists of 7 periods, including: Art, Bible, English, History, Math (Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1), Physical Education, and Science. Extra Curricular activities include Drama and ASB. In addition, students have 2 study hall periods each week to help them keep up with the academic challenges and demands that Middle School presents. Various field trips are provided to enhance and reinforce their academic program.

Elementary School

VCCS Elementary School teachers seek to develop the whole child, helping to educate him or her spiritually, intellectually and socially, helping each child grow as God designed them. The biblically-based curriculum incorporates academic subjects featuring phonics and systematic reading instruction, hands-on math experiences, and a discovery approach to science. The faculty seeks to encourage and foster thinking and writing skills as well as conceptual development and computation skills. A student's education is enriched by subjects including art, physical education, library, and computers.

Students can also participate in musical presentations, chapels, spelling bees, speech meets, an annual science fair, field trips, and be eligible for various awards to enrich their education.
